About Scholarly Toolkit
A growing set of single-purpose web tools for the routine parts of research, academic writing and publishing.
Who it’s for
Students writing papers, researchers managing sources, authors preparing manuscripts, and the editors and publishers who work with them. The tools are aimed at tasks that come up again and again and follow clear rules, where doing them by hand is slow and easy to get slightly wrong.
How the tools are built
Each tool does one job. It asks for the information it needs, shows you what it found or worked out, lets you correct it, and then produces output you can copy or download. Where a tool relies on an outside data source, the page says which one. The tools run in your web browser and don’t require an account.
What’s available
- MLA Citation Generator: Enter a DOI to pull the article’s Crossref record, correct any details, and get an MLA 9 Works Cited entry with a matching in-text citation.
- Hours From Now Calculator: See what time it will be after any number of hours or minutes, or how long until a chosen clock time, using your device’s own time zone.
- Days From Today Calculator: Find the date any number of days from today, or days before today, with the day of the week, starting from your device’s local date.
- Weeks From Today Calculator: Find the date any number of weeks from today, or weeks ago, with the day of the week and the total in days, starting from your device’s local date.
- Date Calculator: Count the days between two dates as calendar days and business days, and see the gap in weeks, months and years, with the option to count both dates.
- Business Days Calculator: Add or subtract business days (working days) from any date to get the exact result date, skipping weekends and any holidays you add.
Further tools for research, writing and publishing are planned and will be listed on the tools page once they’re released.
A note on results
The tools are designed to save time, not to replace your judgement. Source metadata can be incomplete, and style requirements vary between instructors, journals and publishers, so please review what a tool produces before you use it.
